The shot from 84 is crazy. Cant believe all the trees that were missing at that time. Was there 2 days ago. My favourite walkies. Incredible amount of mushrooms in there last 3 weeks. All that sandy ground.
Interesting shots. The 84 shot really shows how sparse the central strip of the forest was back then. Even more came down in the 87 storm, maybe because so many of the old, taller trees were so exposed.
Interesting time lapse of the forest. I had read about the storm of 1987 that felled so many trees. I'm happy to see that they replanted the trees again.
I also know about that freak storm in 1987 as it's mentioned in the book Left at East Gate, too. But what was the reason for the missing trees in 1984 ? Brenda Butler said in a report that very shortly after the incident occured the forestry commission came in and knocked all the trees down, really quickly. According to her they told it was because of radiation on the trees. (see time index 4:30 in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7qR0BSlXu0 )
