Some questions.....

Postby Problemchild » Fri Sep 25, 2009 10:47 am

One of the questions that has bothered me for a while about the RFI is why the Suffolk Police were called in preference to the MOD Police. Surely with any type of incident on or near Bentwaters/ Woodbridge the Mod Police would be the more logical choice?

Also I would be grateful if any members of SP or LE on the forum could outline what procedures were in place or what training was given to deal with the scenario of a downed aircraft in or around the base?

Surely the possibility of a aircraft falling short or over overshooting the runway had been considered on a busy flight line. Especially with the possibility of live conventional and nuclear weapons being present. I would have thought there would have been a checklist to follow and plan to implement? Even with a skeleton Christmas staff.

I would have thought that even as airmen were heading into the woods to check on reports of a possible air crash, phone calls would have been made and SAR procedures would have been at least considered?

I would have thought a part of Security training would be exactly this kind of scenario and SP would have trained alongside any kind of Hazmat, disaster prep or N.E.S.T. personnel.

Apologies if this has been raised before.

There were procedures in place! Because there were no aircraft flying we first had to go out and see what we were dealing with. As far as what checklist was followed at CSC I'm not sure. I'm sure they were waiting to see what we had! And after we came up on what we encountered there really was no checklist to follow! As far as who was contacted I'm not sure other than it sounded like Lt Buren didnot notify anybody until around the 6am-7am hour.

Thanks John,

I wondered if when the intial call that it could have been an aircraft down would have triggered a higher state of alert or readiness. Various departments put on alert or standby to back up the people in the field

I understand that what you were experiencing in the woods was very strange. I was curious to see if the "normal" sequence of actions were followed.

If it was some kind of test or experiment, or someone had foreknowledge of the events it might be evident in their not following the script for the original call of a possible aircraft down.
