General discussion about the Rendlesham forest incident

Postby slipX » Fri Feb 22, 2008 8:16 pm

This isn't directly connected with Rendlesham time or location-wise but it's always stuck in my mind. I have an old book 'UFO Mysteries' and it mentions the following:

"Two policemen responded to a 999 call at Hainault Forest, Essex early one morning in 1977, and spotted a tent-like object glowing red through the trees. They watched it 'pulsing' for three minutes, then it dissolved into darkness.

I've always thought that the similarities between this incident and Rendlesham are striking.

Hi slipX

I wonder if it was a tent and the people in just turned the light off?

However, its interesting in as much that this was also seen in a forest as was Rendlesham. The shapes are loosely similar. It would be interesting to get the Police report on that. We must class it as a UGO, Unidentified Ground Object.

Hello Observer, the closest thing to a Police report of the Hainault Forest Incident is from a website that deals with police sightings. As you say it could've been just a tent or maybe something else.

60. 0412 hours. 03/05/77. Location: Hainault Forest, London. Following a report of an unusual object in the vicinity of a lake in the above area by a member of the public, two uniformed officers attended the scene. On arrival they used a key to access the forest park area. Once inside they immediately noticed a large red light on the east side of the lake. They stopped their vehicle and got out to observe the object. The UFO was approximately 300 yards away from them and low to the ground. It was bell shaped and its size was a thumb nail held at arms length from their position. They watched the object for two or three minutes before it was seen to pulse dull to bright red whilst hovering in total silence. Without warning the object disappeared from view. The officers split up to approach the spot where it had been. Suddenly one of the officers saw an object that he described as a white inverted UFO, low in the sky above his position before the craft disappeared from view. There was a slight smell of burning in the air. The incident was officially reported via the police vehicle radio.
On Duty sighting. 2 Officers. Source – FSR Vol 23 No 2 Aug 77.

If this is the case I recall, it was generally attributed locally to illegal night fishermen at a lake, who naturally scarpered once the police turned up.
The lake in question is within sight of the A1112 Romford Road, so it doesn't really share the remoteness of Rendlesham. I was an Essex boy in those days and I visited the site.
Now, I live in the far more mysterious Brentford Triangle, made famous by the books of Robert Rankin...
