Guys - a while ago I suggested a meet at or near Rendlesham. Andy and Redsocks suggested they would be up for it as they live quite nearby. I'm down in Hertfordshire but am quite willing to drive up to Woodbrige. How about you Larry - instead of getting locked into disagreements on here, would you join us? Frequently the written word is misunderstood because it lacks the tone of the spoken word so to meet face to face would be very useful. After all, we are as much interested in resolving this mystery as you but you have more reason than us because you want to know what happened to you back then. i'm pretty much free every other weekend starting from next weekend (21/22 June), for the next six weeks or so - so if we can agree a date and location we can go from there. There's a good little pub at Butley (Butley Oyster?) or there's another, can't remember the name - the something or other bridge..

Let me know what date you decide, I can be fairly flexible and will go with the majority.

As for pubs, theres the Cherry Tree at Bromeswell and the Wilford Bridge, which is between Woodbridge and Bromeswell.

I can make either Sat or Sun of any of the following weekends:

21/22 Jun
5/6 July
19/20 July
2/3 August

Any of the pubs mentioned is fine by me....the Wilford Bridge looks pretty decent. Also, it appears to be big enough to have a conversation without the world listening in...something that the Butley Oyster most definitely is not.

Larry...just a thought but if you are able to join us, do you have a favourite pub or bar that'd you'd like to meet in for old time's sake? One that you and your mates used to go in when based at Bentwaters? It might not be there now of course but such is life.

The one we used to frequent at Northwood was the Reindeer - opposite Mr Mann's chinese restaurant (both gone now, apparently!) or if we fanced an ogle at exotic dancers we'd go to the Grapes in South Oxhey. To be honest none of the locals welcomed Jack intruding on their turf because in those days we were fanny magnets - but we were a lot younger then!!

hi puddle,
would like that much, i used to go to the running buck in ipswitch, and we always got into
fights, it was a dump any way!
the wilfred bridge was halts hang out, from what i hear ,he too, was a fanny magnet back in the day!
the officers hated us enlisted boys moving in on there turf and there women so they ran us out.
the cheery tree or the green man up the road past the base is good and the owner saw some shite back in 1980
so any will work for me , i will have to find my old fanny magnet though, must be around here somplace?
best

Larry, that's great. Any pub of your choice.

Also, re the previous post about Col Williams. Let's not get too hung up on the communicating bit. The forum is trying to help resolve this. I try to back up my posts with reliable quotes or evidence but that is in no way intended to make you look silly or to imply you have changed your story at all, I just like to be factual. That's why a meet would be good, it's always better to talk face to face than rely on the written word.

As for being a fanny magnet today...shit, I wish I still were but then don't we all! :D

I remember the Running Buck :) And yes, the fights were notorious. Halt a fanny magnet???? I didn't realise the RNIB were based in Woodbridge? Or Helen Keller, for that matter.

Hi Guys
Just from recent experience, the Wilford Bridge has gone up market slightly with silly prices and flashy food [fish orientated] where as the Cherry Tree is a good value for money eating house with a great beer garden and you don't get ripped off, I was there in April. hope this helps.
