Hi. I've just joined this forum. I was born in Ipswich and used to visit Bentwaters as a child with my parents who has friends on the base. Thats where they got a taste for ten pin bowling. During the 70's I was driving lorries carting asphalt for the Wickham Market by-pass. I was told whilst there about huge underground complexes which were to be constructed in the area. I now live in London but as my mother still lives in Ipswich. I visit regularly and often make a pilgrimage to Rendlesham forest.

Hi Bee,
Glad you've joined us as you knew the area back in the 80s and can comment on how things were back in those simple times. Please get stuck into the forum and make yourself known.
Its interesting your comments about the underground bunkers and asphalt as its allways been denied they existed, Can you let us have any more info on this. Where can you remember delivery too, know any other drivers who have this knowledge etc
Dont worry about getting shot down in forum flames--- it happens all the time!
we all want to get to the truth which as you will see is not straight forward

Hi Deep Purple

I was dropping asphalt onto a road surfacing plant constructing the Wickham Market by-pass. It was summer 1976 and as it was very hot and dry I was asked to work all the hours God sent to get it finished, staying on site till 11pm some days. I was told whilst there by someone who was on very close terms with the road laying gangs that at the end of the job a lot of them had decided to give up the caravan travelling around the country from site to site. They had decided to settle in the area around Wickham Market. When I probed a bit I was told that they had signed 3 year contracts to build a top secret underground complex and that they had been paid enough in advance to enable them to put down deposits on houses....
