General discussion about the Rendlesham forest incident

What the papers said.......

I've been digging about and have found some newspaper extracts realating to the Bentwaters case. They are all pretty old, so it may be the case that as it was new the info had not had time to get too muddied or its as muddied then as it is now......

1) From the Ipswich Evening Star (dated Thursday October 25 1984)
Headline "UFO Tape 'is not a Hoax'"

"The Sky Crash story is like the fishermans tale of the one that got
away... it gets bigger each time it is told"

"Any incident which took place off base did not come under the
jurisdiction of the USAF"

Asked specifically about the traces of radiation found at the site -
"only normal background counts - the sort you'd get if we went out
anywhere and took readings"

All of the above statments were reported to be from the 81st TFW PA
Office.

2) On the same page there is a diagram of the east end of Woodbridge
airfield showing the 'UFO's flightpatch from thw North of the runway,
over the lights and then where it entered the forest. NB this was the
same diagram used in "the UFO Report 1990" by Timothy Good, but the
'UFO's flightpatch and the on foot security patrols path have been
removed in his book.

3) News of the World (dated Sunday October 23 1983) -
Headline "A flying triangle of fear"
"The bizarre flying triangle hovered silently above the tiny hamlet of
Hollesley in Suffolk for 20 minutes"

"Nothing like a plane or helicopter" eye witness

"If they are experimenting, then we ought to be told" eye witness

"Whatever was in the sky flew over us. The lights beamed down and
we heard a high pitched whine" eye witness

"Nothing was seen on radar. I cannot say more than that" 81st TFW
PA Office

4) It was also reported that a UFO landing in Suffolk was a likely as Elsie
Tanner getting herself into a Nunnery and it was suggested that it was
"Boy George holding a private outdoor practice session"
(nb. Elsie Tanner was a character in an English TV Soap and Boy
George was a pop star of the time"

If anyone else has any intersting snippets from the time I'd like hear What the papers said.......
