Silvertop,
If I understand this correctly Ted Conrad was the base commander, so if he was present then there is another.

John, did you mention at some point, that you thought he could of been in the forest with you on your second night of involvement?

To add to my last post.
Jerry Valdez Sanchez told Georgina Bruni, that a Mark Beaucham was the first to report the incident, though on further questioning it appears that Sanchez was talking about the later events involving Col Halt.

John I just wondered if you were aware of these two people or, if you can remember them being there on either night?

(sorry for reposting your Robert, there's a hundred threads on here!)

Beaucham was an LE and he disapeared. Can any of the LEs on the forum confirm or deny this please?

St.

No worries, Silvertop,
Anything to help etc.

Perhaps you can ask your Uncle Larry W about the tunnels running out to the sea from the RAF stations. I would point out this was mentioned on a web site regarding Larry's debriefing and I unfortunately can't at the moment remember which one. However if we have the man himself perheps he can refute the reported conversation regarding the tunnels or confirm them.
As I remember it, on the website, they were supposedly connected to the underground bases.
I think someone also mentioned these tunnels as possibly having been built for, or during WW11.
Realise this may be in the realms of speculation but I would like Larry's valued opinion.

Cheers

Something definitely runs underground from approx the end of Woodbridge runway, opposite Folly House, along the wide forest ride, eastwards towards the farmer's field. Exactly how far, I don't know for sure but there are what appear to be access shafts every 150 yards or so, I've got phots of some of the shafts, taken in May this year. From the brickwork and concrete cappings they appear to date from WW2.

Incidentally, Churchill ordered chemical weapons to be stored in wooded areas close to every east coast airfield from Scotland to Kent. The weapons were to be used as a last resort should Hitler have invaded England. They were to be hidden from bombing raids by the Luftwaffe so must have been stored underground. This means there must have been an underground storage facility under Rendlesham forest - and almost certainly this storage area must have been accessible by tunnels from both bases. The weapons would not have been handballed down a silly little staircase, surely (although we are British and logistics is not our strong point) so the main tunnel was probably wide enough for a delivery vehicle to access. I doubt the govt would have built two such areas close together, so at a guess I'd reckon there was one serving both airfields but bigger than the others. Thus the storage area was probably equidistant from both bases. Perhaps there was no vehicle access from the bases themselves but only from within the forest, near the road. Smaller tunnels might have been constructed to enable the weapons to be moved by trolley or similar, to the airfields.

Does anyone know of anything in Tunstall forest that might resemble a vehicle entrance to something underground?

Puddle
I cannot help with your requests but there have been rumours for years amongst locals that a tunnel connects the twin bases. This may be inaccurate re the location and it could be nearer the forest. No smoke without fire as they say.
What about asking the MOD under the FOA.
