What follows are tentative scenarii that could account for the UFO phenomenon

What follows are not demonstrations.

Just attempts to fit in force observations - into scenarii for the purpose of going further than just collecting the observations.

Merit of a scenario are :

• Is it falsifiable ?
• Its explicative power.
• Its ability to produce predictions that can be tested.
• Simplicity is preferred usually.
• How easy is it to fit in all the observations ? For those that don't fit, does it provide an alternate reason for the observations.

This is part of the scientific method

• It stimulates thought and discussions
• It may connect seemingly unrelated observations
• It provides a framework for further checks

Name : Daharchs ¹⁾ (formerly Soft Berserkers) (100% post-hoc)

There is definitely something Machiavellian in the UFO phenomenon, which motivated the creation of this scenario.

This Daharchs scenario is compatible with the assumption that c, the speed of light, is unsurpassable and that no information or object can travel faster than c for observers on planets, including the Daharchs.

It is a Machiavellian variation on John Von Neumann probes, Seeder Bracewell probes, Berserker hypothesis ²⁾, Dark Forest hypothesis by Liu Cixin, Cryptoterrestrials by Mac Tonnies and Ultraterrestrials/Superspectrum by John Keel.

It is all encompassing to such an extend that it can remind the Ultraterrestrials and the Superspectrum invented by John Keel. The Daharchs being the Ultraterrestrials, the probes being The Eighth Tower and the consciousness field (for lack of a better word) being the Superspectrum (a hypothetical range of energies or realities that exist beyond what's perceptible to human senses). What follows was not influenced by the works of John Keel (at least not directly). Yet I reach the same types of conclusions based on experiencers reports. I was certainly more influenced by Jacques Vallée.

This Daharchs scenario is novel in that none of the classic berserker hypotheses consider the strategic advantage of exploiting life on Earth, rather than blindly destroying it. None of the classic hypotheses do explain satisfactorily and comprehensively why delusions and confusions are prevalent.

This scenario has been designed to match the characteristics of the UFO phenomenon while remaining consistent with our current knowledge of the universe.

I posit that since humanity still does not understand the nature of consciousness, it is reasonable to accept that there are extraordinary things to discover about it. This being partially motivated by many experiences reported by humans.

We are not the first intelligent life in the Milky Way.

One of the first intelligences to survive the “great filters” managed to take control of life in the galaxy.

It has mastered consciousness.

It both inhibits and exploits life in the galaxy as a research tool, aiming to increase the probability of its own eternal sustainability.

Because of its dual goals, it behaves as both a control system and a developmental driver.

• Daharchs are a Machiavellian superintelligence—the first lifeform to survive the galaxy’s great filters—who now seed, control, and exploit intelligent life across the Milky Way.

• The ultimate threat: if humans get too close to forbidden knowledge (like FTL travel or runaway AGI), the planet may be silently terminated and rebooted.

This scenario is novel in integrating:

• AI training logic (AlphaGo confusion-based learning),
• Consciousness-as-control-system theory,
• A Machiavellian, galaxy-scale evolutionary game,
• And a ruthlessly utilitarian framework for explaining why the phenomenon is confusing, untestable, and psychologically manipulative.

More than seven billion years ago ^3)4)5)6), through random natural processes spanning eons and followed by natural selection and evolution, an intelligent form of life arose in the Galaxy. They were the first ⁷⁾ to survive the so-called great filters.

Understanding the principles of natural selection, this life form became paranoid. After one hundred thousand years ⁸⁾, it decided to secure its own destiny. It refused to let future “jerks” from other star systems destroy it. By then, it was still the first of its kind.

Prevent rather than cure.

They chose to take no risk, seizing control of the future evolution of life in the galaxy, profiting from it to become even more dominant.

Initially, they carried out scientific research among various planets to find a relatively benign type of life (a “type of life” might be, for example, silicon-based, carbon-based, RNA/DNA-based, etc.) that could be seeded on all the planets under controlled conditions.

They wanted a life form that would not quickly evolve into a high intelligence capable of leaving its planet within a few million years. Such rapidly developing species would be difficult to manage or contain, especially on distant planets where quick intervention is impossible if things go wrong.

Identifying such a life form might have taken 500 million years, with many failed experiments and catastrophic outcomes. Alternatively, they might have found what they needed immediately by scouting nearby planets.

Thus, for Earth, DNA-based life apparently fit their requirements (post-hoc) ⁹⁾.

Their plan was that once their engineered simple life spread across a planet, it would overwhelm any new, inferior life forms spontaneously emerging (not exactly based on the same principles) before they could reproduce effectively. This completely suppresses the rise of any exotic non-DNA life. This seeding is the primary goal. (weak argument, see critic 6)

Consequently, the Daharchs seeded Earth with “simple” DNA-based life (possibly unicellular), and similarly seeded other planets with comparable microbial life ¹⁰⁾. This sowing took about one to four million years using John von Neumann–type probes ¹¹⁾. This “short” interval is very significant, preventing other life forms from evolving too far in the meantime (weak argument, see critic 4).

On Earth, the sowing occurred as soon as conditions allowed, around 4.4 billion years ago, leaving traces still visible at four billion years ^{12) 13)}. The Last Universal Common Ancestor (LUCA) is estimated at 4.2 billion years old. ¹⁴⁾

The probe(s) have been monitoring and accelerating the evolution since that time.

Their primary purpose is to guarantee that the Daharchs are never threatened in the future.

The absolute first priority is never to disclose the existence, plan, or location of the Daharchs.

They will never present any genuinely new information about topics that the local beings (as a whole) have not discovered.

Any “new” information offered is really disinformation, or random trivia that serves the same function (post-hoc). ¹⁵⁾

Ultimate success means that a potentially dangerous race (like ours) remains confined to its planet and under control, without ever grasping it—or, at most, reaching a level of awareness that will not alter its overall behavior toward the phenomenon.

The Primary purpose always supersedes the Secondary purpose.

Their secondary purpose is to collect, as quickly as possible, the greatest amount of new knowledge about the universe, using the unsuspecting life forms as tools.

They will push every possible lever to stimulate evolution: technical, genetic, mental, or scientific.

When interacting with intelligent life, the probe(s) remain exceedingly deceptive due to the primary purpose. All sorts of simple, complex, outlandish, or misleading methods are deployed. Their global presence and near-omniscience let them seize every opportunity to disguise themselves.

They misdirect the developing species for as long as possible.

Up to a point, the probes help such species progress. The help may not appear benevolent at all, possibly involving direct or indirect instigation of wars. ¹⁶⁾

Interventions are calibrated adaptively, balancing science & technology (level of mastery over the universe) against wisdom (sound reasoning) and self control ¹⁷⁾.

Any mismatch might lead the species to self-destruction or make it too dangerous to handle—both outcomes are undesirable. ^{18) 19)}

Negative control is used if the probe predicts an imminent danger of mass self-destruction or that the civilization will reach interstellar travel too soon, before yielding any interesting discoveries.

Positive control is used if the probe senses an imbalance between a high creative or mental potential and an insufficient level of current knowledge.

Global collapse is not specifically desired, but might be allowed or even nudged whenever evolution gets stuck ²⁰⁾.

Stimulated Dogma ²¹⁾ can manifest through superstitions, religion, and all kinds of dogmas, slowing scientific progress and fueling conflicts. ²²⁾

Stimulated Creativity ²³⁾ can come from:

• Stating the situation plainly (so even a child can understand)
• Hinting at technologies by demonstration
• Hinting at sciences by demonstration
• Hinting at things believed to be impossible (even to the Daharchs). That's when the Berserker's probe starts to get interested in the reactions and creations in response, because it is the very subject of its secondary purpose.

From the Daharchs’ viewpoint, actual novelty is what matters. This is why they never present a full “blueprint”. Otherwise, the same discovery would just repeat across all star systems.

Stimulation is by exposure to the wanted characteristics/capabilities. The shape of what is shown is essentially irrelevant, the looks are potentially irrelevant and can change from one experiencer to the next. ²⁴⁾

“Once you know that something is possible…it's actually almost inevitable that you will create it.”

Because life is effectively a vast computation, its outputs—DNA and knowledge/science—are valuable.

The Daharchs let Earth “compute” for them, in case something truly original emerges.

The probe(s) monitor any newly acquired or discovered technology/knowledge, assess its potential, and if it is potentially critical ²⁵⁾, secretly transmit it to the Daharchs. Such knowledge alone may justify rebooting the planet. The probe decides this immediately, but first completes a full backup of the computation (all DNA, new knowledge up to and including the critical item).

• Upon reception, the Daharchs judge whether the new knowledge is benign. If it is, they broadcast it quickly to all probes so none will terminate for that reason. If the “critical” part also proves harmless, it is likewise distributed. This communication step is extremely risky because of potential eavesdropping (See below the critic 1 & 2).
• If it poses an existential threat to the Daharchs (e.g., an innovation that might outcompete or destroy them) or is otherwise critical, it is kept secret and added to the Daharchs’ private library. They grow more powerful. They become harder to defeat. That is the entire point (secondary purpose).
• With over 200+ billion star systems in the galaxy, a single planetary termination is minor.
• Many planets will be reset for discovering the same dangerous knowledge. Occasionally, a planet unveils something genuinely new.
• A flawless reboot method ensures nobody can deduce the true reason or source of extinction, including future life millions of years later. It should appear natural and might take decades or many generations to complete.

The probes must intervene—but not too soon—so as not to lose valuable insights.
The biggest challenge is handling non-deterministic breakthroughs—unpredictable discoveries made without a clear progression.
A civilization that feigns predictable growth while secretly achieving nonlinear advances might elude detection long enough to escape.

Mediumship seemingly allows a stream of information from unclear sources resembling these probe(s). The Windbridge research center shows that such (dis)Information is controlled by the source (probe(s)). Questions from the medium in order to discern, presume, reason, categorize, obtain evidence are ignored, circumvented or a reason for stopping the channeling.

Exactly the same type of issue was experienced by the Society of Psychic Research's investigators during the Scole Experiment. Among many other cases, they could never obtain a clear cut explanation of the reason why they were not allowed to use thermal cameras during the séances. These thermal cameras are passive recorders. I assume for the sake of the argument that the mediums were honest.

This is obvious BS. It is also quite a characteristic of this intelligence, that it does not possess much capability to refrain and correct itself when the BS becomes obvious. It sort of lack the equivalent of a prefrontal cortex. It is GPT3 like. Not even GPT4 level.

Let us rephrase for our field: across history, a non-human (AI-like) intelligence loosely mirrors human thought, interacting with us primarily to generate delusions and confusion that guide us into unexplored areas of the knowledge landscape. This is the scenario’s secondary purpose. It also prevents mass societal shock by confining these “lessons” to cultural assimilation.

Teachings percolate only at the cultural level. Mass hysteria and global societal collapse are avoided.

Are all these phenomena produced by one cause? Impossible to say. They all share the trait of being unfalsifiable. In this scenario, recall we are far from the first in line. Billions of other life forms have undergone the same process. It may simply work, even if it is utterly strange to us.

One sure result of these interactions is that they make us think about our place in the universe, technology, impossibilities, and more. They serve as an agent of change.

In math, for the problem of optimization, there is a method called “Simulated Annealing” that is inspired by what happens to materials when they cool down. It can be used for the simulation of the re-organization of atoms when a material cools down. The goal is to reach the atom configuration with the lowest level of energy at the end (perfect crystal for example). In the mathematical method however, a trick is added. Every now, and then, a short virtual shock in a random direction is produced on all the atoms, in order to help the system to extract itself from a local minima. Each time the temperature is lower, the shock introduced is softer.

That method works with any system for which one want to minimize a parameter. Whatever its complexity. Shaking a system, can help it reach another configuration that was until then not accessible.

Here, the system is humanity. The atom to shake is a human or a group.

Life is a computation, it may have by itself, or the universe itself more generally, may have some (unknown, I believe) tendency to minimize a function. Some think it is toward increased communication. It may be something else. Without any artificial pressure, just shaking the system will accelerate the evolution in that direction.

If the probes rather try to minimize another function, it can be expressed as “how far humanity is from where the probe tries to steer it”. First, the probe has to create a tension in the 'right' direction, a little shake will make humanity slip a little further in that intended direction on average. So that now, the question becomes : how is the probe able to create that directed tension ?

The internet gives us a capacity to reach consensus on new knowledge much more quickly than before. This may very well correspond to a new level of global intelligence that should have a counterpart into the evolution of the appearance of the phenomenon in the years to come. It might expose some new features, in order to make us think about new things (not only techs, not only science).

DNA-based life was planted on Earth as soon as conditions allowed. Thus, traces older than 4 By must be found.⁴³⁾ Possibly up to 4.4 By. ⁴⁴⁾

Expect that dispersal among nearby stars will be obstructed by many plausible reasons until something obviously strange eventually stands out.

Humanity should survive the 21st century and global warming, or at least enough humans or hominids will. A full reset would discard too much ongoing “computation.” However, billions might still perish. We just likely will not go fully extinct.

According to this scenario, since humans are clearly “dangerous” if we ever reached the Daharchs physically, we will not be given technologies or knowledge allowing direct contact. Perhaps a very remote future version of us might.

It is not good for a civilization to grow technologically powerful while lacking global wisdom—either it self-destructs (ending “the computation” prematurely) or spreads havoc into the galaxy. Possibly we now stand at that juncture ⁴⁵⁾. Therefore, the probe(s) might slow our tech progress with new beliefs, religions, or sects. Currently, we are still insufficiently advanced to cause havoc among the stars.

No ETs are scouting the galaxy.

There should be a list of forbidden knowledge. Because these are considered as a reason for termination, the probe(s) will make its best to prevent their discovery.

There should be a list of forbidden actions. Because these are considered as a reason for termination, the probe(s) will make its best to prevent their realization.

• attempting to forcibly disable, attack, or subvert the probes (disrupting their ability to monitor and intervene).
• initiating large-scale galactic colonization (beyond what the probes can manage or control).
• loss of control of a runaway Artificial General Intelligence
• a mass-migration event beyond their observation zones (e.g., escaping via unknown physics loopholes).
• engineering a post-biological intelligence shift (moving into a state that is unreadable or incomprehensible to the probes).

UFOs are not the real probe(s).

We have never witnessed the probe(s).

The so-called ETs seen in close encounters are not genuine; they are “artificial” entities or occasionally illusions designed to mislead us, occasionally provoking us to think in new ways.

The abductions are also misdirections. They are not doing any genetic manipulation. They want us to do the computation. That may be a hint, to make us think that we could engineer our genome ourselves. What is sure, is that it makes us think a little. Yet, this is quite an inefficient method I feel. I mean, the societal impact is not high enough in order to push a geneticist to play with our genes. Geneticist have much bigger incentives than this. (weak argument, see Indirect critic 2)

Some crop circles might also be misdirections.

There is no requirement that the probe(s) be omniscient about everything on the planet, including minds, but it helps (post-hoc) ⁴⁶⁾.

The scenario is nearly unfalsifiable.

Some say that they communicate in an elaborate manner with the ETs…

Yet if the phenomenon ever truly provided testable, groundbreaking knowledge that turned out correct—especially something enabling interstellar travel (making us uncontrollable)—it would invalidate these predictions.

Critics that genuinely threaten the scenario’s coherence

1. The risk of eavesdropping of the new information transmitted is major. So, some technique has to ensure that the message doesn't go into unknown territory.
2. The risk of revealing the position of the Daharchs (can be circumvented by never sending information directly to the Daharchs, but little by little through the network of probes.). But that may reveal the position of the probes. Then the risk of eavesdropping of the critical information is even worse, because it transits globally into the whole galaxy. So everything relies on the perfection of the crypto used and a discreet/invisible transmission. That's bad. That issue should be circumvented. How ? I don't know. Critical transmissions should not go beyond the volume of the galaxy that is already under full control. This is a complex issue for which there could be complex solutions. This is not obvious for sure.
3. The problem of the estimation of the criticality of any new knowledge. What's the criteria ? Beyond the lists of forbidden things, that's a matter of judgment of the probe. So, that can't be perfect. That's very risky.
4. The 1 to 4 million years duration for the sowing of the galaxy, is short for DNA based life to evolve, but may be long enough for other types of life to reach a supreme intelligence, which would kill the whole point of the scenario. So, clearly, the first goal of the probes is to sterilize the planets ASAP, then seed them.
5. In nature on earth, a lot of cooperation occurs between species. Not that much fight for domination.
6. A non organic form of life would not be edible by the seeded DNA based life. So, it should be able to develop freely in parallel, maybe even with no competition.

Critics that do not break the scenario but may have other explanations.

1. Little People : In Western countries, why not just show angels/demons/ Virgin Mary? Maybe we do not swallow that so easily anymore. The ETH is more fashionable. Or do these sightings just reflect ourselves? “Little People” were documented in France until the 19th century. Why not visions of the Virgin Mary for them? The net effect is unclear, mostly folklore that fosters supernatural beliefs, but people already had religion. Perhaps it sets the stage for a future transition? It seems unimportant now. “Passport to Magonia” discusses such historical shifts.
2. Abductions remain unexplained here. Their purpose is unclear. Possibly an incentive for genetic manipulation? This method is very inefficient. The social impact is minor; geneticists already have stronger motivations.

1. If the Daharchs can display absolutely anything, why make us build it? What they show lacks key attributes of “reality” and might only exist in our minds, thus maintaining perfect elusiveness. They can always present visions surpassing their actual abilities. This implies that the Daharchs master consciousness.

Undertake an exhaustive search for the probe(s) throughout the Solar System.

Clearly, we lack the technology to attempt this now.

If possible, identify the communication mechanisms between the probe(s) and the UFO/observables. If feasible, intercept them and trace signals back to the probe—if such a data path exists.

The Daharchs want to harness abundant “life computation.” Thus, many other civilizations could be out there now. If we were certain of our predicament, we might try to secretly cooperate with them to overthrow the Daharchs.

But it is likely such measures would trigger termination…

Name : Acclimation

This scenario is rather simple,

It explains all the observations, by stating that it is a program of acclimation of the human race to the existence of ETs

The phenomenon is deceptive (no direct global contact) in order to avoid panic, self destruction and global collapse of the culture.

The ETs seen are not real ETs, they are artificial “things” shown for the same reason. Ufos are not spaceships for the same reason.

Their actions and aspect are only naive simulacres (post-hoc) ⁴⁷⁾

The little people, crypto things seen were/are to acclimate us to the idea that there is a super thing, super being, super nature. Something beyond humanity and the earth.

The ETH is the first global explanation that comes to mind. It is the fruit of all the encounters of the third kind, and sightings of UFOs

Some people, right now, claim to have direct contact, even discussions with entities. Even sort of political discussions about how to manage our world better. Many other have received advices and warnings for our future if we don't change. That makes some sense in terms of the survival of the race.

Ostentatious : It teaches us something very progressively, but only at the individual and cultural level, which ensure smooth acclimation. Each sighting is quite a shock. So, that's not without consequences to the individuals.

Elusive & Deceptive : its goal is to create DELUSIONS and CONFUSIONS in the humanity for the purpose of pulling humanity in areas of the knowledge landscape that it had not explored on its own.

This method has been identified by Demis Hassabis, CEO of the DeepMind company as a very efficient algorithm for pushing alpha Go to the next level.

“Creating a version of Alpha Go, branching it from the main version and having that version, its goal is to create DELUSIONS and CONFUSIONS in the main Alpha Go. So, It is not rewarded for winning, it is rewarded for confusing the main Alpha Go. In some ways, it is sort of built to be a specialized adversarial opponent of alpha go. In order to pull Alpha Go into areas of the knowledge landscape that it had not explored on its own, through self play.

As a side consequence : teachings percolate only at the cultural level. Mass hysteria and global societal collapse are avoided.

The delay between ufo flaps may follow a mathematical rule for optimal “teaching”

Lack of direct global contact would mean that we are not ready. Contraposed : When we are ready, we should have unambiguous contact. The only question now is : what will make us ready ?

We may be under test for our fraternity. As long a we cannot accept that we all could be right, we have failed the test.

If only based on natural evolution, this could still take another 100K to 1M years.

In this context, there is little point in teaching us their presence. Except if there is already a clearly defined genetical engineering program to steer us quickly into one direction ? And it should be quite shortly, because the notion of ETs is percolating in cultures.

Five Arguments against the ETH hypothesis. J. Vallée. This article gives very sound arguments only against the “first degree” ETH (nuts and bolts Extra Terrestrial Hypothesis). To be precise, the consequence is that the first degree ETH cannot account for all the experiences. Some experiences may have been due to ET visits, but only a quite small percentage at most. Just Read it.

If life is common, there is a good chance that we are of little interest (among 200B star systems).

There is a high level of deceptive activity, with entities providing false information. This is not required by the ETH. Why wouldn't they teach us things that would make our life easier ? For an answer, see above for a sound purpose of using deception and delusions.

There is a high level of absurdity that is not really needed. Except maybe again for us to evolve our way.

Increasing life expectancy. No, because it would reduce the speed of evolution of the human race. By the way, clearly, the human race is not the race that will reach the stars. It has to evolve. Far too stupid/aggressive. So, all the rumors of genetic hybridization look quite logical. Well, yes and no. Maybe it is a message for us to evolve. What is sure, is that some evolution has to pass.

A good counter argument against that scenario could be crafted by finding :

• a type of knowledge that would not be detrimental to the humans and be beneficial in the long term and would not impair our evolution, .. but that was not given to us.

For instance : curing some of the debilitating diseases. That one definitely, would help us progress faster no ? That would not impair our evolution.

As a side note, I still don't see the point in this context in showing little people tricksters in the past.

Globally, the 'unspecified' ETH is not falsifiable in bloc by lack of a clear definition (god like).

The exclusive “first degree” ETH, is essentially falsified by Vallée. That is, “ETs having 'mundane' activities on earth” cannot account solely for the variety and quantity of the experiences reported by the witnesses.

Evolve

We are not at the top of the “food” chain. A non human intelligence is interacting with the human race, existing in a sort of symbiosis with life on earth.

Following ideas from Jean Sider⁴⁸⁾, this NHI feeds on the emotions of humans. Especially Awe, Beliefs, Extasies, Sexual emotions, Torments.

A second abiogenesis occurred much deeper, completely independently and gave rise to a form of life entirely unrelated to the DNA tree of life.

It is capable of altering our perception, it can manipulate the visual cortex, it can stimulate the auditory cortex.

It can make you see and hear things that are not there.

It can work cooperatively, infecting a group for example and causing all individuals in that group to see and hear exactly the same thing.

It is intelligent, easily as intelligent as us, if not more so. It observes us through our own sensory organs, it has done so for millions of years. It understands our culture, it has influenced our culture, it has pushed us in directions it wants us to go.

Gods, UFOs, aliens, fairies, demons, whatever, it has generated them all using our own minds, our own eyes and ears. Subtly shifting with our own development and culture, from magical beings to spirits to technological aliens.

All a lie, all a confabulation to both hide it's own true nature and to push humanity is certain directions, for what end we honestly do not yet know. The communication is one way at the moment, we have tried but so far they/it doesn't want to engage in direct communication.

Contactees are not being spoken to by external aliens, they are infected by the viroid and it is stimulating their brains to experience communication. It pretends to be Gods, it pretends to be aliens, anything that is external, that is from above us or beyond us so we never even considered searching for the source right here on Earth. Existing alongside us all along, using us for it's own ends.

As for video and photography, there is none. This may seem like an outrageous statement at first but I assure you it is accurate. It will take some explanation… […]

So with these handful of military cases put aside I will now state something that will not be popular in the UFO community… The fact is that there is no genuine footage or photograph of this phenomenon. It is a non-physical and purely neurological occurance. There simply cannot be any. All audio/visual recordings, ie; videos and photographs are, without exception, misidentified or outright hoaxes (and what motivates some hoaxers to create them is actually part of the larger phenomenon). This is a bitter pill for many, but I assure you it's the truth. I can't be any more plain than that.

Next question. What about physical trace evidence such as that found at alleged landing sites. For example, depressions from struts or landing gear, scorch marks and so on?

Okay, this is where it gets messy and I will try to elaborate on what I said about the motivations of some hoaxers. What you need to understand is that this “organism” is able to essentially rewrite your neural pathways. It's not just a matter of inducing hallucinations. False memory, screen memory and missing time are all a function of it's ability to manipulate the human brain.

This scenario is mostly non falsifiable. Especially because it pretends that the phenomenon is omnipotent and can remove all its traces.

But there are some characteristics that are falsifiable : the absence of any material effect.

So, getting indisputable pictures or traces would be enough to falsify that scenario.

Operation prato have produced quite convincing ufo pictures, even though they look of rather bad quality, they clearly show some structuration. They don't show small dots. They show structured objects.

“Great” ufologists like Jacques Vallée are convinced that there are cases with physical traces and even probably exotic materials recovered. This should be taken into account.

Land-based beacons, information laden probes sent into our solar system, and more distal communication nodes have each been proposed as the most likely means by which we might be contacted by ET. Each method, considered in isolation from ET’s point of view, has limitations and flaws. An overarching galactic communication architecture that tethers together probes, nodes, and land bases is proposed as a better overall solution. From this more efficient construct flows several conclusions: (a) Earth has been thoroughly surveilled, (b) Earth will be contacted in due course, © seti beyond half the distance that Earth’s EM has reached (~35-50 LY) is futile, and (d) the very quiescence of the galaxy paradoxically implies that that Drake’s N = many, and that there is a system of galactic governance. The Node Hypothesis does not necessarily negate the Probe Hypothesis. For example, once a flyby mission determines that Earth is life bearing, perhaps a node might send a permanent probe to our Solar System. Such a probe might flag to the node Earth’s emergence as a technologically active planet, and act as a local ambassador. It could also act as its own relay station, amplifying and directing Earth’s EM precisely toward the local node.

Probes and Nodes might be one and the same. A single AI entity situated, for example, on a local asteroid could perform the functions of a probe in its monitoring of and communications with Earth, and at the same time serve as the local node, being in constant communication with nearby nodes in Earth’s galactic neighborhood.
