Wise words...

From 'A Study in Scarlet' (Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, London 1892):

“It is a capital mistake to theorise before you have all the evidence. It biases the judgement...." (Sherlock Holmes)

A lesson for the RFI perhaps?

Hi Wolf / ST

Experiments with buttered toast tied to the back of cats notwithstanding, the sayings of Sherlock Holmes (wonder what he would have made of the RFI?) apply very well to the RFI, i.e. Don't theorise before all the evidence has been obtained, then once the impossible has been eliminated whatever remains, now matter how improbable, must be the truth. The problem with the RFI is the lack of hard evidence. There is the Halt memo and tape of course plus the statement that the incident was 'of no defence signifigance' and a couple of contradictory witness statements but that is about it. Because of the lack of evidence and reliable testimony, nothing can be eliminated. Anything could have happened. Therefore the RFI will never be solved.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle knew how to write Sci-Fi and the Occult..

The Lost World : five stories in one book.

The Lost World - Dinosaurs, ape men, adventure

Poison Belt - a poisonous ether belt is killing off Earth’s population.
Professor Challenger to the rescue.

The Land of the Mist - psychic phenomena, poltergeists, mediums...

The Disintegrating Machine - “ In the blink of an eye”, a mother ship with its crew
vanishes in thin air. I find this familiar.

When the World Screamed - Pain machine for earth. I saw this in action.
