in 2000 i knew a guy who at the time was a security guy on the base, in 2000 this was the time when the base was shut down and visitors were very rare . the guards carried out patrols on foot but due to laziness some just used their cars to do the patrol and one daily patrol involved going down to checkpoint the fence at Folly cottage . one such day after doing this he decided to drive onto the main runway and see just how fast his car would go !
