Lighthouse Theory

Postby Noblem400 » Wed Dec 30, 2009 9:35 am

Hello all,

My first post.

Apologies for the dumb question but does the lighthouse at Orford Ness not have a shield on the land side of the lens thus only emitting light out to sea?

I read somewhere that the light beam had this shield in place in 1980. Just wanting to clear this up.

Thanks,

Noble

Hi Noble,

Yes the lighthouse does have a deflector shield ( not like the klingon ships ) on the Orford Ness side. This is as far as I'm aware to stop the beam flooding the town at night. It doesn't however seem to stop the beam from being seen from the forest edge, something that I'm sure will continue being debated!

Best wishes for the new year to all, hopefully it will be an interesting one.

It's an idea that "UFO Hunters" promoted in the TV episode "Military vs. UFOs". The lighthouse keeper's quote was taken out of context. The lighthouse is visible from certain areas of Rendlesham forest, but it's hardly the "bright beam of light passing through the trees" that some have claimed it to be. :)
