MoD documents

In response to an FoI request I recently received from RAF HQ Command a one and a half inch thick wad of papers related to the RFI. They make very interesting reading and include at least one document which MoD, although typed on what at first glance appears to be MoD official headed paper, have verified as a fake. It is a good fake but fake nonetheless.

These are the same documents that used to be available online but were subsequently withdrawn. The reason given for the withdrawal was 'copyright reasons'. But from looking at the file, it appears there was nothing sinister in this, it was, or so it would seem, simply because the documents include press cuttings and personal letters and given the size of the file, to weed them out would have taken ages.

Also, having read the file, the responses given by MoD and other departments to the numerous persons seeking information on the RFI, were open, honest and quite comprehensive. Further to that and given the evidence within these documents, I am now of the opinion that nothing of any significance happened. Whatever the reason for the USAF excursion into the forest, it seems only to have been of concern to the USAF and was of no interest, defence or otherwise, to the UK security forces, the police or the military. Thus, unless anything else comes to light when other once classified files are released in Jan 2011, it is pretty much case closed - at least as far as I am concerned.
