More UFO files to be released - Rendlesham Files missing

I saw this article on the BBC this morning. Certainly thought provoking:

The MOD has released a few files today: http://ufos.nationalarchives.gov.uk/. Reading David Clarkes highlights document he writes,

'Files on Rendlesham Forest incident (Britain’s Roswell) destroyed

During 2000 a search by MoD records staff revealed that a collection of Defence Intelligence files covering the period 1980-82 (including on the famous Rendlesham Forest incident) had been destroyed, even though other files from the surrounding years had survived. Records staff could not say when or why files were destroyed as the destruction certificates themselves were not retained for longer than five years (DEFE 2026 p182). Officials from MoD warned that if what it called this “apparent anomaly in the records” were made public “it could be interpreted to mean that a deliberate attempt had been made to eradicate the records covering this incident”.'

Always interesting, and for those who are interested in the Space debris theory:

'A UFO file from 1979 (DEFE 24/2037) reveals government concern about the risk posed by the crash-landing of debris from space on UK. Fears of what could happen if a piece of junk should fall from the sky over Britain were raised when the giant US space station Skylab began to decay from its orbit. The head of MoD’s Defence Intelligence asked the Home Office to circulate guidelines to local authorities in the UK. The ‘restricted’ document Satellite Accidents, spelled out the emergency procedures that should be put in place in the event of a nuclear hazard reaching the UK from space (p81).

Wonder if someone has a full copy of the Satellite Accidents document.

Out of interest :-

1. When were u first made aware of the binary code story ?
2. Have u ever seen jims diary ? If so When ? And did u not see the binary codes for yourself ?

1. In Phoenix in Oct. 2. Yes in Oct and yes I saw the codes. I have no reason to not beleive the fact he said he wrote the codes down in his notebook. He did talk about that there was somthing bothering him on the Sunday night after the incident happened. Why does everybody get so worked up about them in the first place. Somthing happened to us out there somthing that had the Mod Intelligance agency get involved and conducted a investigation. They also now have claimed they destroyed the files but none of the others from the same time period.

The BBC's article seems to indicate that when it comes the UFO incidents the MoD are completely and utterly incompetent at keeping accurate records:

However, among intelligence papers released in 2009, it was revealed that former Admiral of the Fleet Lord Hill-Norton wrote to the defence secretary about the incident in 1985, speculating that an unauthorised aircraft may have entered and left UK airspace at the time.

But it is not the only gap in the official record. In 2002 the MoD received a request for information from Lord Hill-Norton. He wanted to know about reports of a UFO sighting made by HMS Manchester while on exercise in the 1990s.

It emerged in the file that HMS Manchester's log for one of the periods was lost overboard after "a gust of wind" and the vessel's captain cannot remember anything unusual taking place.

Whilst we know, in all walks of life, that a degree of incompetence and error will always be present it seems strange that documents for such a high profile case have gone missing. This only fuels the conspiracy theories even more. Something happened in 1980 out in that forest that is not easily explained away. But it seems that some people wish it would go away.

Moving on to John's point about the binary codes that Jim documented. It seems strange that we only have the one perspective that these are ASCII codes and translate into English. Is there not another interpretation of these codes being looked at? And after all this is only a small piece of the jigsaw puzzle. Unfortunately the MoD have lost the pitcture on the box lid though.

I agree that these documents are probably not lost at all. There is probably some very interesting information that falls under a longer restriction. So I feel this case is still long from finished.
