In addition to the nonsense that only 5% of the reported sightings are UFOs (investigators dismissing cases based on personal bias), another piece of generally accepted nonsense lies in the presumption that UFOs are generally a post WW2 phenomenon. UFOs, numerous shapes including saucer, have been recorded in both art and photographs, e.g. numerous photographs taken in the 1920s:
