MoD Rendlesham files

Postby IanR » Wed Feb 27, 2008 4:41 pm

The MoD Rendlesham file is no longer available via their own website. The relevant page now displays the following notice:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
These documents have been withdrawn from the website for copyright reasons.
They are however, available on request from the following address:

DAS-FOI
05-H-13
Mod Main Building
Whitehall
London SW1A 2HB
Das-ufo-office@mod.uk
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've no idea what the "copyright reasons" might be and neither does Dave Clarke. If we find out we'll tell you.

Just don't go spinning conspiracy theories – just yet...

I wonder if it is because the film/TV companies like using the originals as their base script for the documenteries and the MOD got all silly about them making money on a free hand out?

No its not a conspiricy theory, its just me being cinical.

I would of thought it was information in the public domain.
Could be one of the players has in someway attached copyright to their name or information and wants money for it being published. Dunno

How strange? Surely if there was nothing to hide, there would be nothing to worry about?

You can bet your bottom Dollar that the MOD is 'rattled' and thats down to this forum and it's researchers!!
Over the hundreds of posts over the last year or more, some one got a bit too close for comfort.

Copyright is a pretty big subject, but I would imagine the " copyright issues "
probably relate to the documents containing scans of articles/literary works. There are some scans from Sky Crash contained.
Why the MOD pays someone to scour the online document archives looking for slightly grey area "copyright issues" is beyond belief!

The MOD probably don't scan the files etc. Its probably more to do with in house cost cutting.

That was my thought, too. Jenny would probably be pleased of the publicity for Sky Crash, but there were newspaper cuttings and at least one magazine article there (not to mention Hansard).

Remember that the MoD lawyers are everywhere, shutting down websites that get too close to The Truth!

After further discussion with Dave Clarke, we think the reason the Rendlesham files have disappeared off the MoD website is that all UFO files are now being transferred from the MoD to The National Archives at Kew (what some of you may still think of as the Public record Office).

The National Archives are having a major release of UFO files in the next month or so, and Dave thinks that the Rendlesham file will feature among them. There may in addition be some new pages relating to Rendlesham that have not previously been seen.

The MOD files on the Rendlesham Forest incident have in most part been read by many interested parties. There is nothing startling in them and they basically say of no defence significance or words to that effect which is either a complete cop out or true. You choose. I cannot see any new papers about to be released being any different. We shall see.
