Nikolaos Balaskas As there is a military response whenever unknown objects, including UFOs, enter our airspace, the military activity (eg. strange moving lights in the night sky) can sometimes be confused for the unknowns or UFOs. Just because there was military activity present at the same time where many independent and credible UFO sighting reports were made is not a good reason to totally dismiss a major UFO incident such as the Phoenix Lights as misidentification, mass confusion, myth or an outright hoax. Of course there are also those who profit by writing books or going on lecture tours and others whose job is damage control by spreading disinformation that further muddy the waters… 27 janvier, 06:21 · J’aime · 2

Morgan Beall Norio Hayakawa I would agree about the lights at around 10pm that night being that of the flares dropped by the 175th, my father just retired before the event and he was the commanding officer of that squadron. It was a media frenzy according to the pilots and they dos have to drop their incendiaries before returning to the base. Bruce Maccabee did a great analysis http://brumac.8k.com/phoenixlights1.html that said I do not agree with the assessment about the events prior. The actual sighting that actually started the buzz happens much earlier about 2 Hours prior. The remainder of the analysis was assumptive and unscientific. Used the analysis of the later lights as a anchor to support the hypothesis rather than basing it off witness testimony and a few unresponsive eye witnesses, which was a challenge in it self it seemed. Tell us why Symington is not credible, remember just like you preach, no blanket statements without supportive evidence of your claim.

Lynne Dumin Kitei Disconcerting - and a bit absurd - that 18 yrs later & a plethora of credible data to the contrary - others are still trying to discredit & debunk the cryptic 3.13.97 mass sightings - with no definitive hard evidence of what the silent, mile wide V CRAFT & ORB arrays that over 10,000 witnessed glide right above their head (at roof top level) throughout AZ and over NV, NM, & CA for over a DOZEN hours on March 13, as well as weeks before might have been. Let alone the fact that the ONLY “official” explanation was military flares (which may have been deployed as a diversion from the True Unknowns), but when 3 ANG units “tried” to re-enact the Phoenix Lights on March 7, 2000, they FAILED miserably.https://www.youtube.com/watch?x-yt-cl=84838260

Lynne Dumin Kitei To date, the Phoenix Lights have yet to be explained or re-created - and yet they continue to appear Worldwide. And if you actually look at the data, which speaks for itself, they have been with us for Centuries. That being said, focusing ONLY on March 13, 1997 (which the debunkers continue to do) is missing the full picture. These anomalous aerial phenomena were gracing our skies for weeks (even years) before the mass Events & since, including a close encounter that I witnessed & photographed (35mm) 2 yrs. before. My photo evidence has been extensively anlayzed & authenticated by University & Miltiary optical experts, (including Navy Optical Physicist, Dr. Bruce Maccabee) & confirmed as True Unknowns. http://www.thephoenixlights.net/Photos.htm The main reasons I came forward - after 7 yrs. of anonymity, while meticulously researching the Topic after the mass Events - was to set the record straight & share the data, so others can make up their own minds. But alas, one has to actually look at it.

Curt Collins It sure is an interesting case to study, as is how the story itself spread. The USA Today coverage seemed to really change things, with new witnesses coming out of the woodwork. 27 janvier, 16:04 · J’aime · 1

Lynne Dumin Kitei Right you are Curt. The June 18, 1997 USA TODAY article opened up our mass sighting to international scrutiny. After months of NO investigation or explanation by the Govt. or Military, we were deluged by Media from all over the globe. Once they spoke with the witnesses themselves, they too were asking why there wasn't an investigation. Then suddenly on June 19, the very morning AFTER the article, our former Gov. Symington announced an unscheduled Press Conference where he marched out one of his Aides in a huge alien head costume - making a mockery of the Events. Hmmm… 27 janvier, 16:20 · J’aime · 1

Lynne Dumin Kitei Also keep in mind that there is a detailed, recorded report by a Luke AF Crewman to the Nat. UFO Reporting Center at 3 am on 3.14.97 that military jets were sent to intercept & get gun camera film of a mile wide craft hovering over Central Phoenix & when they approached the lights dimmed & then the craft disappeared, freaking the pilots. Luke AF Base then went on lock down! There were also witnesses who saw the ORBS detach from the Craft, go out into the environment & then re-dock with it, as well as others who watched the silent low gliding Craft take off at blink speed, without even dispersing the air. Incredible technology to be sure, whatever it was. 27 janvier, 16:51 · Modifié · J’aime · 3

Lynne Dumin Kitei And concerning the silent, mile wide “parade” of CRAFT that was reported by thousands, after a 12 yr., intensive investigation into hundreds of reports from the Nat. UFO Reporting Center, AZ MUFON, former Vice Mayor Frances Barwood & the local clearing house, Village Labs, it was concluded that there were actually 9-10 DIFFERENT craft described. Whether it was one craft that could morph, the perspcetive from where the person was standing or a parade of varied craft (which the investigators concluded), we may never know. What we do know is that something extra-ordinary DID traverse the Southwest on 3.13.97. http://www.thephoenixlights.net/GAP.htm

Lynne Dumin Kitei With respect for Norio & the author of the article, as an up close & personal Key Witness to the Phoenix Lights, who has pushed my own accomplished Medical Career aside for 18 yrs., searching meticulously for a logical explanation to what I saw & photographed, I have yet to find one. Rumors, debunking & here-say abound. But the biggest truth is that we need to get this Topic out in the open - address it, accept it & study it - so we can find out who's driving these things, as well as move forward in our own evolution. Don't you think? 27 janvier, 23:04 · Modifié · J’aime · 2

Ryan Washington Why Norio do you keep trying when you keep failing over and over again. 27 janvier, 22:55 · J’aime · 2

Morgan Beall Curt Collins I agree with what is said on page 12 indeed but it is still based on one and 1/2 witness testimony and states the obvious. What I am looking for is analytical assessment proving flights occurred and tracking commuter aircraft and overlaying this with that of all the witness testimonies. Most of this article is opinions based on facts but not all the facts. That area is very busy with air traffic all the time. So if there is a unusual aircraft or unknown that goes through a busy location does that make it a identified air craft? That hypothesis needs to be tested with all the witness testimonies independently. To date the only fully scientific assessment I have read was Bruce Maccabee 's paper on the video shot at 10pm. If Symington and other witnesses describing a similar situation are not credible then why? When asked many saw the solid object. Why is this ignored or not put to the test. I would also ask Lynne to verify her sources with the military witnesses. So far these pieces of evidence have been unverifiable independently. It's typically a author claiming to have “exclusive” access to witnesses. If a witness is not able to provide some other evidence other than their testimony and are not willing to go public you are simply stuck with anecdotal, limited and likely unreliable evidence. Optical analysis of digital or even a retail 35mm camera is also unorthodox and will likely have some analytical error. A full spectrum analyzer needs to be used during a sighting to truly assess the spectrums. Digital video is even worse because it is synthesized imagery not true imagery. Just my opinion based on conversations with experts in these perspective fields. It is a interesting sighting. Let's hope all involved in the beginning of the next big sighting make less mistakes. It's hard to return to something that has happened this long ago and get accurate data both measurements and information. 27 janvier, 23:10 · J’aime · 2

Norio Hayakawa Ryan, as I stated, I am not a debunker of anything. I have never called anyone crazy or wacko or stupid. Because I love people and accept people as they are, despite some differences in world-views or perspective on things. I try my best to be skeptical. Even though I remain rather skeptical about the ET hypothesis of the origins of the UFO phenomena, I have always been (and continue to be) open. It is said that roughly about 95% of all UFO sightings are natural phenomena and/or man-made artifacts and that there are 5% that continue to be regarded as “unknowns”. It is my feeling that eventually most of those 5% unknowns will be prosaically explained if serious studies are focused on them. But I am not a total skeptic. I keep an open mind. I give about 2.5% chance for the extraterrestrial visitation hypothesis. Out of that 2.5% I give only about 1% for actual physical visitations with physical ET craft. (that makes it 1.5% chance that the visitations are not physical but rather ultra-dimensional visitations, temporarily breaking the barrier of our physical dimension, if you will). Therefore, I could really describe myself as 99% skeptic for physical ETH Hier, à 07:30 · J’aime · 3

Robert Sheaffer Symington is lying, he made up this “sighting” belatedly when he thought it might be politically expedient (and keep his name in the news): “I witnessed a massive delta-shaped, craft silently navigate over Squaw Peak, a mountain range in Phoenix, Arizona. It was truly breathtaking. I was absolutely stunned because I was turning to the west looking for the distant Phoenix Lights.”

“Phoenix lights” in the west = flare drops → after 10 PM. “Giant triangle” landed at Davis-Monthan before 9 PM.

If Symington saw the triangle UFO after the flares had appeared (after 10PM), he is the only one who did. Hier, à 19:07 · J’aime · 1

Robert Sheaffer Here is what I wrote on my BadUFOs Blog about Symington's supposed sighting:

“ I did not realize that former Arizona governor Fife Symington's belated confession that he, too, saw the big V-shaped UFO of the Phoenix lights, ten years after the fact, was made while (James) Fox was interviewing him. Later I had an opportunity to talk to Fox, and told him that there is good reason to believe that Symington is lying about his me-too sighting. (Symington was, after all, convicted on seven felony counts of fraud, overturned on a technicality, then pardoned by the outgoing President Clinton.) The first UFO event of the evening, the V-shaped lights (actually five Air National Guard A-10s flying in formation from Las Vegas to Tucson; Tim Printy has more about this) occurred from just before 8:00 PM until 8:45. The second event, that Fox agreed was a flare drop from different Air National Guard planes, began at 10:00 and lasted at most ten minutes. I reminded Fox that Symington claimed to have seen news coverage of the lights on TV, then went outside to look. He says he walked down to where the news crews had been filming the lights (the flare drop), and then saw the V-shape fly over, big and mysterious. However, there was no news coverage of the sightings before the planes landed about 8:45, and there could have been nobody filming the “lights” prior to 10:00, because the flares had not yet been dropped. Therefore Symington's claimed sighting occurred after 10:00, probably well after, and hence is an obvious fabrication. “No, he saw it at 8:20. It was 8:20,” Fox insisted. “How could he have seen news coverage of this by 8:20?”, I asked. “Maybe he heard chatter on the radio or something,” Fox said. “How could there have been news crews filming this by 8:20?”, I asked? Fox was having no more of this conversation. “Why would Symington have made this up?”, another man asked me. “Because of the news coverage it gave him, and feature stories in which he talks about his new business ventures. It would have cost a lot to buy the publicity he got for free by claiming a UFO sighting.” http://badufos.blogspot.com/.../ufos-in-desert-part-4.html

Curt Collins From a review of “The UFO Handbook” by Allan Hendry: The phenomenological analysis of IFO cases is startling. Extreme emotional responses are recorded in a significant number of cases. What is one to make of IFO case no. 871, where a star changing colour, caused one witness to pray, fearing the end of the world? Or the terror provoked by the Moon in case 280 which “made my hair stand on end”? Or sightings of stars which caused responses like “scared to death”, “torn between terror and curiosity”, or “a sign, premonition”. This sort of reaction makes one wonder if there are any clear dividing lines between IFOs and UFOs. http://mrobsr.blogspot.com/2010/07/ufo-handbook.html 23 h · J’aime · 2

It would have cost a lot to buy the publicity he got for free by claiming a UFO sighting.”

Warren Naujalis Norio Hayakawa. Many witnesses like Tim Ley and Terri Mansfield reported these 5 lights or V Shaped craft a couple hundred feet above their heads going extremely slow and making no noise at all. The military aircraft in formation theory is clearly out the window. 21 h · Modifié · J’aime · 2

Norio Hayakawa Symington was indicted on 21 federal counts of extortion, making false financial statements, and bank fraud. He was convicted for seven counts of bank fraud on September 4, 1997. He was charged for defrauding his lenders as a commercial real estate developer, extorting a pension fund and perjuring himself in a bankruptcy hearing. As Arizona state law does not allow convicted felons to hold office, Symington resigned his office the next day. There is ZERO CREDIBILITY when it comes to Symington. 21 h · J’aime

Ryan Washington Norio you are getting desperate and using unrelated court cases and calling that UFO evidence. 19 h · J’aime · 2

James Oberg Why am I being sucked into this debate, Ryan?

Since I've been invited, I submit a study demonstrating that a moving formation of bright lights in the night sky has often been misinterpreted by some observers as one large object with mounted lights. This is not an argument for such an explanation for this case, just a claim that eliminating such a candidate explanation is not as easy as many argue: http://www.jamesoberg.com/1963_kiev-fireball-swarm-rev-B.pdf 17 h · J’aime · 3

Curt Collins The attempts to zoom in and enhance the individual “orbs” have only yielded grainy results, but some researchers insists they can discern some details.
